See what others are saying about Car Tires| How long do car tires last? | | Ever wonder how long tires really last? (This was also posted by me at dormcheck about 10 hours ago and had only 1 view and no response. I've re-worded it here again.)
Out of curiosity I asked a tire dealer, years ago, how long tires last under normal wear and tear. It is 20,000 to 25,000 kilometers (12,400 to 15,500 miles) depending on the road surface mostly they are used on. Concrete wear them up faster. Tires and brakes are one of the most important parts of a vehicle when travelling. Note down your car's odometer reading when you change to a new set of tires.
| | Can you change car tires by yourself? | | This is a food for thought discussion post. It is interesting to find out how many of us actually can change our tires all by ourselves. In the past, I used to call a mechanic to do the job. Lately, I find that as part of my personal finance strategy, the money could be saved by doing it myself.
How about you? Do you change the tires yourself? Or you'd rather not dirty your hands and get a mechanic to do it?
| | Why don't they use normal air in race car tires? | | Many race car teams use nitrogen instead of air in their tires because nitrogen has a much more consistent rate of expansion and contraction compared to the usual air. Often, a half pound of pressure will radically affect traction and handling. With track and tire temperatures varying over the duration of a race, the consistency of nitrogen is needed.Nitrogen pressure is more consistent than normal air pressure, because air typically contains varying amounts of moisture due to changes in the relative humidity on race day. Water causes air to be inconsistent in its rate of expansion and contraction. So, a humid race in the southeast United States or a dry race in the desert western United States could make for unpredictable tire pressures if "dry" nitrogen were not used.Nitrogen is also used in the high-pressure tires on large and small aircraft. | |
| | Do you know how to change a flat tyre??? | | I haven't yet changed changed a flat tyre. Once the tyre got flat and fortunately my friend knew how to do it, so it was done. I have got my fair bit of theoretical knowledge, that I have to put in the jack, bring in the stepney, and remove the screws diagonally and finally fit in the spare tyre.Have you ever done it yourself? Any funny incident you remember doing it? Or are you waiting still that once it happens then I will come to know about it? Do you call the helpline if you have got it flat? Share your experiences.[em]thumbup[/em]P.S. I am gonna do it for myself this weekend. | |
| | car experts!! please advise!! | | if we are driving on a road & had a tire blown out, which tire blow out will be more dangerous to us? the front tire blow out or the rear tire? i think that a front tire would be more dangerous, since the steering and a majority of braking comes from the front. what do you think?on another hand, i heard that if we are going to install a new pair of tires, they should go on the rear because worn-out tires on the rear could cause the rear end to slide out when we try to turn or stop. since we can steer the front wheels, we have a better chance to control our car if the front wheels slide than if the rear wheels slide. is this true?my points are:-
1) if we install a new pair of tires on the front, we get the risk of sliding out when we turn or stop.
2) if we install a new pair of tires on the rear, we get the risk of having the front tire blown out.so, if you are going to install ONLY a new pair of tires, where would you choose to be installed? on the front or on the rear? why?experts, please advise, i really want to know! thank you very much!:)
| | How Can This Happen? | | I have a scanner on at home that I listen to regularly. It's interesting to hear all the calls go out and what's happening in my area. I just heard one go out to pull over a driver on one of the major highways through St. Louis who was driving a Lexus that had two flat tires? How is this possible? I would think the car would pull to one side or grind to let the driver know there is a problem. | |
| | how are you roads in your town? | | Do you think that the conditions of the roads in your town causes you to have car repairs? And always having to buy new tires.Tell me what you think about the roads in your town. | |
| | Ladies: Can you change car tyres? | | Many men said that women can only drive but can't change tyre. It's irritating to me. I can though I never did. Once I have one of my car tyre blows off and have to change it. As soon as it blows off, I went check it out and went get the tools to change the tyre. I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty because of changing tyre. But the fact was men around came to help me out and didn't allow me to change it myself.
Till now I never blow my tires again but if I do, I'll change it myself. I want to prove myself and others that women can change their own tires, not just able to drive a car.
Can you change your car tyres, ladies?
| | Kids camps, did you ever do 'em? | | So I just got back from doing a kids camp up north. I'm a leader there, so I make sure the kids are having fun and not busting each others teeth out with paddles etc. And I'm just curious, Does anyone here do Kids camps? Either as leaders or campers. Cause the majority I have done I have been a leader. There are only a few I actually did as a kid. the majority of my camps I have been a leader. It can be a real fun experience. And I recommend it to anyone looking for some new experiences in leadership and just plain kick arseness.
Also a quick anecdote of your best memories of camps would be cool to. Gotta love camp stories.
One time I lay down horizontally and put three car tires around me (One around my shoulders, the next around my waist and then my legs.) Then I got some of the other guys to give me a nudge down this Huuuge hill that is used for the waterslide. I started rolling and bouncing around (Totally ruined my neck actually, Haven't been able to use it right ever since) and then ended up at the bottom. But what I didn't realize was that I went straight over some random kid playing in a box. He got flattened and the box got ripped...
| | Today's Accomplishment | | [em]happy[/em]I am very proud to say that I have accomplished a lot today. I started my day a bit early than usual. I started my day by cleaning the house and rearranging the furnitures, washed some clothes, then went to the Department of Foreign Affairs to submit the requirements for my daughter's passport, made an affidavit to supply name for my sister who is registered as "Baby Girl" in the City Civil Registrar, went to graduate school to inquire when is the third trimester enrollment, bought curtain rods, had the car's tires inflated, and went to the mall with my daughter who enjoyed playing at Tom's World. I had a wonderful day today.[em]thumbup[/em] | |
